Fox News tracks Obama's excessive use of the first person ("I")in his speeches and asks "why?"
I'll tell you why. It's because many people still think that Obama is the second coming. More importantly, Obama thinks this of himself.
Ironically, Theodore Roosevelt, an egomaniac in his own right--just read his autobiography)--gave a speech (it may have been his inaugural address)and refrained completely from referring to himself. There was not one "I," "me," "my," or "mine."
The reason is simple. Theodore Roosevelt argued from conviction (though he wasn't always right). Barack Obama, on the other hand, argues from celebrity.
I believe Roosevelt felt that it took more than Congress and the President to get anything important done in this country. It was necessary to convince people that they were an important part of the process, more than just voters at election time and beggars in the welfare line. Obama is retarded compared to Teddy.
ReplyDeleteListen, don't take offence at anything I say, O.K., but as a product of Hillsdale College and a Masters degree in "Antebellum Intellectual History" (surely a if ever there was one), you're a typical conservative prick. If you were really that smart you would know that English usage at the TURN of LAST century, than English usage of the 21st century. If you think that President Obama is the only politician that over uses idiomatic "I" statements, then you need to spend a little more time listening to schmucks like Newt Gingich, Glen Beck, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Michelle Bachman, and your friggin hero, Rush Limbaugh. Clearly, you are not used to, nor comfortable with an African American man who is intellectually gifted, self confident and President of the United States - whether you like it or not, Tea-Bagger.
