False Martyrs

Three of the detainees at the United States' Guantanamo Bay prison facility are demanding the death penalty for their actions, saying that they welcome the opportunity for martyrdom.

There are many who would respond to this by suggesting then that life in prison would be a better punishment. However, consider that these guys want to die because they think that they're going to heaven. Imagine their surprise when--after the trap drops, or the poison is injected, or the bullets hit--they end up, not in heaven--not even in Detroit--but in Hell.

The question is, do they deserve Hell sooner or later? The longer we keep them, the longer they think that they're going to paradise.

  1. note Christian doctrine...Catholic and Protestant alike - we all deserve Hell, and it is only by God's grace that we may avoid said suffering.

  2. We all deserve Hell, but by God's grace we who have faith in Christ--whom Muslims degrade as a mere prophet (even though the fact remains, as C.S. Lewis pointed out, if Jesus was not the savior he was either a liar or insane)--we shall be saved from the fire.
